Lakewood Community Supports Public Works Crews

During extreme summer heat, one simple act of recognition grew into a community response.

Community Impact · July 2026

During a week of extreme summer heat, Tags4Lives set out with one simple goal: to make sure the people working behind the scenes to keep our community safe, clean, and running knew they were seen.

In Lakewood, Ohio, our team delivered cold water, sports drinks, and appreciation to public works crews working outdoors in difficult conditions.

What began as a small act of recognition quickly became something much bigger.

FOX 8 News joined us to help share the story and shine a light on the people who quietly serve our communities every day.

From One Act to a Community Response

What happened next captured the heart of Honor In Action.

A Lakewood resident saw the effort and decided to take action herself, placing a cooler filled with water and sports drinks outside for a public works crew. The crew later shared a photo showing just how much that simple gesture meant.

That moment proved that recognition does not always require a large event or major donation. Sometimes it begins with cold water, a handwritten note, or a few sincere words of thanks.

The response from the Lakewood community showed how quickly gratitude can spread when people are given a simple way to participate.

Recognition in action

From Recognition to Ongoing Support

The momentum did not stop with one water delivery.

Tags4Lives began preparing Frontline Recognition Packs for public works professionals and other frontline workers. Each pack combines practical support with a personal message of appreciation. A complete pack averages approximately $20 in materials for the bag, supplies, and Honor Tag; delivery and field-activation costs vary.

Depending on the needs of the crew, packs may include hydration products, snacks, cooling towels, portable chargers, and other useful supplies alongside handwritten Honor Tags.

Why Public Works Matters

Public works professionals help keep communities safe, functional, and moving every day.

They maintain roads, water systems, sanitation services, public spaces, and essential infrastructure. Their work often continues through extreme heat, severe weather, overnight emergencies, and difficult conditions.

Their service may happen quietly, but its impact is everywhere.

Public Works is the yellow frontline category in the Tags4Lives system. Protection is blue, Firefighters orange, Medical red, and Military green. Different roles, one linked mission.
